Did You Know?

Because they are about 70% protein, earthworms are prey for many animals. Robins, frogs, turtles, and moles are some of the animals that dine on earthworms.
The average earthworm's body is divided into 100 or more segments.
Earthworms can't see, smell, hear, or taste. Instead they use their sense of touch and a special adaptation to sense light to help them move around and avoid predators!
There were no earthworms in North America before the Europeans came to settle here. Early North American earthworms were stowaways in the settlers' flower pots!

Earthworms have 5 hearts.

An earthworm's skin must be moist in order to take in oxygen. If it's skin dries out, an earthworm will suffocate.
