The
Arabian Desert
The
Arabian Desert is found on an area of land called the Arabian Peninsula.
It is a hot, sandy desert with many, many sand dunes. In fact a part
of the desert called the Empty Quarter is said to be the largest unbroken
stretch of sand.
The
Arabian desert covers about 900,000 square miles (2,300,000 square
kilometers).
Scientists have found fossil remains of animals that feed on plants
that are only found in wet climates. These studies show that the Arabian
Desert hasn't always been a desert!
Many
people have traveled the Arabian Desert. Some used this desert as
a trade route. Others, use the minerals found there (such as oil)
as a object for trade.
The
Jordanian and Rub 'al-Khali deserts are also found on the Arabian
Peninsula.
