Buttons
There are few things around your
home more versatile than a box of buttons. They can be used for any
number of learning activities. Here is a list of learning activities
that can be done with buttons! Pick one and follow your child's imagination!
|
|
Math:
- Use the buttons as counters to help with addition
and subtraction.
- See how many different ways there are to categorize
and sort the buttons (size, shape, color, use, etc.). Stretch
your imagination!
- Make pattern lines with the buttons. How many
possibilities are there?
Language Arts:
- Tell or write the story of one of the buttons
in the box. How did it get there? Where did it come from?
- Write an Ode to buttons.
- See how many adjectives you can find to describe
the buttons. Add the adjectives to a word journal!
Social Studies/History:
- Research the history of buttons? When was the
first one made?
- Find out where sayings like "Right on the
Button" and "Button Up" came from. If you can find
the REAL answers, write a fable of your own to tell how these
sayings came to be!
- We use the word BUTTON to describe many things.
Make a list of the types of buttons!
Science
- Do buttons float or sink? Fill up a glass of
water and test your guess?
Art:
- Use the buttons as part of an art project. You
could use small buttons as eyes. You could glue the buttons on
a drawing for the buttons on a shirt. What else can you do?
- String several buttons on a piece of thread
to make a necklace.
